Compare MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay by the room you will book, the pool facilities available on your dates and the journeys on your itinerary. MGM Grand’s Monorail connection and Mandalay Bay’s Beach complex are practical differences; neither property is automatically quieter, cheaper or more convenient for every trip.
Start with named room categories
| Published category | Size and bed | Listed maximum guests |
|---|---|---|
| MGM Grand: MGM King | 446 square feet; one king | 3 |
| MGM Grand: Studio King | 350 square feet; one king | 2 |
| Mandalay Bay: Resort King | 550 square feet; one king | 3 |
Sources: MGM Grand’s MGM King page and current room directory, and Mandalay Bay’s Resort King page. The named Mandalay room is 104 square feet larger than MGM King. That comparison does not apply to every room at either hotel.
Maximum occupancy does not supply another bed automatically. Confirm sleeping arrangements, extra-person charges and any accessible-room requirements. For children or separate sleeping spaces, use the family hotel and room-layout guide rather than assuming a large king room fits everyone.
Choose the pool facilities you would actually use
MGM Grand’s Pool Complex page lists a lazy river and multiple pool areas. At this check it also lists Splash Pool and Private Reserve closed for the season. A resort’s pool marketing does not establish that every area operates on your date.
Mandalay Bay Beach includes a wave pool and lazy river; the wave pool requires a minimum height of 48 inches. Weather can affect availability. Confirm the particular feature, guest eligibility and any rental or dayclub purchase separately.
Use the hotel pool-season and access checks before paying extra for swimming. Neither a room reservation nor a general opening season promises an available cabana, empty chair or operation of every pool feature.
The Monorail and south-Strip tram serve different routes
The official Las Vegas Monorail map runs from MGM Grand to SAHARA. Mandalay Bay is not a station on that line. Include the route from your room to MGM Grand’s station and from the destination station to the venue.
MGM’s transportation directory identifies the separate Mandalay Bay Express network between Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur. Check its current direction, stops, hours and status. Do not treat it as a direct train to MGM Grand or every central-Strip destination.
Compare the complete room-and-journey subtotal
Invented three-night example: a suitable MGM Grand booking totals $660 and planned local journeys add $60, giving $720. A suitable Mandalay Bay booking totals $720 and its planned journeys add $20, giving $740. The second room costs $60 more, saves $40 on these journeys and leaves a $20 higher subtotal.
These are hypothetical complete amounts, not hotel quotes or current fares. Other meals, tickets and travel to Las Vegas remain additional. Read the hotel-fee and deposit guide to distinguish required charges from temporary card holds and avoid counting an included fee twice.
Choose MGM Grand when the confirmed room and Monorail route fit your plans. Choose Mandalay Bay when its confirmed room, Beach facilities or nearby destinations justify its complete cost. Ask about room location and relevant events instead of relying on an unsupported quiet-versus-busy ranking.
