El Cortez is a Downtown Las Vegas hotel in the Fremont East district. Its official history dates its opening to 1941, but the useful booking questions concern today’s room category, access, age policy and complete stay cost. Historic branding does not tell you which room you will receive.
Compare nearby alternatives in our Fremont Street hotel guide, and use the Downtown-versus-Strip comparison if you are still choosing your base.
Check eligibility before choosing a room
The hotel policies require everyone on the property to be 21 or older, with government-issued identification showing date of birth. Room-location requests are not guaranteed. Check eligibility before paying.
Choose the actual category and access arrangement
| Category | What to establish | Why it affects the booking |
|---|---|---|
| Original 47 | The operator describes these original rooms as a stair climb above the casino. | Ask about the exact route and suitability for your access needs; do not assume step-free access from the room name. |
| Cabana Suites | The operator places this accommodation across Ogden Avenue from the main El Cortez property. | Check where you check in, the route to your room and the amenities in the specific category. |
| Other room or suite offers | Use the hotel’s current room links and booking descriptions for the exact name, beds, layout and conditions. | A Tower room, suite and Original 47 room should not be treated as one interchangeable product. |
If stairs, distance, bed layout or bathroom features affect your stay, contact the hotel about the specific room before making a nonrefundable reservation. Ask which features are confirmed and which remain requests. Do not infer current furnishings or sound insulation from an old review.
Separate the amenities fee from the incidental hold
The policy page lists a $30 plus tax daily amenities fee per room and a card-only incidental authorization of $150 per stay for a non-suite Tower or Original 47 room. Other categories differ.
Hypothetical three-night example: if the room charge is $300 before taxes and the amenities fee is separately itemized, three $30 fees add $90. That produces $390 before applicable taxes. If a final quote already includes the fee and tax, use that final total instead of adding them again.
A refundable $150 authorization in the stated non-suite category is a separate available-funds requirement, not an automatic $150 expense. Actual charges can still be made under the booking terms. Our hotel fees, deposits and holds guide explains the distinction.
Plan transport and meals around the location
The hotel’s airport shuttle is drop-off only, by reservation with limited seats, operating 7 AM–2 PM. Arrange arrival transport separately and confirm a usable return reservation if relying on it.
Map your actual destinations and check current dining listings. Do not rely on an old restaurant name, a former opening schedule, a guaranteed table minimum or a promised players-club freebie when budgeting the stay. Check your chosen offer’s eligibility and conditions directly.
Use the food-budget guide to set meal limits and the Downtown museum comparison to plan a paid outing. Include any additional transport rather than assuming a Downtown stay makes every part of the trip walkable.
Compare the complete booking before paying
- Match all guests to the 21+ rule and the required identification.
- Confirm the named room, bed arrangement, access route and any essential features.
- Read the final stay total, current fee breakdown, card authorization and payment conditions.
- Check the cancellation deadline and financial exposure on your specific rate.
- Price the journeys and activities created by this location.
Our Downtown value worksheet tests whether a hotel saving survives those additional journeys. Choose El Cortez when the actual room and terms fit your party, rather than relying on a blanket claim that historic accommodation is always cheaper.
Operator information checked October 16, 2026. The $300 room charge is hypothetical; $390 is a before-tax example, not a live hotel quote. Current booking terms and the hotel’s direct confirmation determine your stay.
